Welcome to the first edition of PowerUPdate, your source for PowerUP news, tips and encouragement!

By now you’re probably familiar with PowerUP. We’re all about energizing your club, making handbooks super effective and adding punch to kids’ faith — and we’re glad you’ve joined us! PowerUP is a year-long effort to motivate kids to complete handbooks.

Have you visited the PowerUP Web site recently? Check out www.awana.org/powerup for general information, resources and training and program material. You’ll also find fun promotional materials like posters, fliers and an overview presentation to get your church buzzing about PowerUP. Plus, we’ve just recently debuted PowerUP training workshops and the great new PowerUP song!

PowerUP training workshops are a great resource. You’ll get all you need to know to launch PowerUP: facilitator notes, PowerPoint files and numerous handouts. You can catch the training track at many fall conferences, but you can do it in your own church as soon as your new year starts.

To kick off PowerUP successfully, consider creating a visible reminder to track completed handbook sections throughout the year. Consider an extra-large race track, “battery bar” or thermometer to track progress. Another idea is to plan a PowerUP party to start the year on a good note.

And, speaking of progress, it’s important for a leader to consider clubbers’ pace. Calculating pace is easy! Just take your start date, your end date and how many meetings are in between and divide into the number of handbook sections. For more details on pacing, use tools in the workshops or the T&T TruthTrackers pacing system. See page 72 of the Ministry Guide for other helpful items.
