PowerUPdate
January 2007

Happy New Year. It’s the beginning of 2007, which means we’re halfway through the PowerUP year! Way to go!

Welcome to the latest issue of PowerUPdate, your source for PowerUP news, tips and encouragement! PowerUP is about getting as much of God’s Word as deep into the hearts of as many children as we can. The new year is a time for new possibilities – to congratulate one another on what you’ve accomplished and to introduce some new ideas to re-energize your kids and yourself.

A Cool New Tool
Kids love to see their name in print. So we’ve come up with another great way to motivate them to finish their handbooks – an interactive map. Each time your students complete a book, go to our map submission form and submit their names. Your kids can then go online to the map, click the United States and Canada, select their state or province and see their name listed among all the book finishers in that location. They can also check to see if friends in other places have finished their books.

Celebrate Accomplishment
Have your students taken great strides to complete their handbooks? If so, celebrate and encourage them with some great club-themed products. With hundreds of items to choose from – zipper pulls, jewelry, books, bags and more – you’re sure to find that little something extra that will surprise them and show them you noticed their hard work. Products can be ordered through the Awana Ministry Guide, the Ministry Guide Online or through the Awana Store at www.awana.org/store.

Super Section Saturdays!
If your kids are finding it hard to get back into the groove of completing their books after the holidays, consider throwing a Super Section Saturday party. Super Section Saturday (actually it can be any time of the week) is a chance for leaders and kids to get together to pass as many handbook sections as possible. This marathon of sorts is a great motivator and a fun time as well. Once your kids have more of their sections completed, they’ll feel more positive about themselves and what they have left to accomplish.

For some great memorization games to use at Super Section Saturday as well as a lot of new tips to try, check out the PowerUP Web site. And if you’re looking for the hottest motivational tool, consider T&T Trading Cards. Churches have purchased more than 50,000 packs this club year, giving their kids an opportunity to collect sets and go online to play games and win prizes! Check out success stories or tell us your own T&T Trading Cards story — e-mail tt@awana.org.

Tell Us About It
We all know it’s important to keep our kids on track and encourage them to memorize Scripture. If you’ve found a great way to do that, share your success with others! We’d love to hear your PowerUP stories and pass them along to friends right here in the PowerUPdate. Just send your ideas, questions and pictures to us at powerup@awana.org. Together we can PowerUP for God!

Until next time!
