One of the poorest countries in the world, Bangladesh attracts sizable attention from aid groups. Its heavily Muslim population tends to discourage those who follow Christ; as a result, those who believe the gospel tend to practice their faith privately. However, Christian churches are increasing there, which develop further opportunities for Awana Bangladesh to reach children with the gospel. Awana exists in Bangladesh to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with courage and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Bangladesh
There are over 53 million children in Bangladesh today under the age of 15. Most of them live on less than $1 per day. Besides for food, they hunger for activities such as Awana Bangladesh provides. It is able to work through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 1984, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created specially by Him!
Every week, Awana Bangladesh reaches 60,151 children with the gospel in their heart languages through 1,268 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Bangladesh
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum. National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
In Bangladesh, there are six missionaries or missionary couples serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders. A national director provides training and oversight for the missionaries.
Changing the World in Bangladesh
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. Sometimes children in Bangladesh have to labor alongside their parents instead of attending school. They have few outlets for enjoyment. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Bangladesh with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
