Unlike most European countries, Italy did not encounter the Reformation, but Catholicism is dwindling in influence anyway. Increasing instead are occult practices and spiritism. However, unity among Protestant churches is filling the gap as young people look for a genuine spiritual expression. Awana Italy can help to provide this for the next generation as it reaches the children of today. It supports the churches by teaching kids the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Italy
There are less than one million children in Italy today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. Well educated, children here need the kind of Biblically solid, age-appropriate Christian materials Awana Italy is able to provide. Bringing kids to Christ and mentoring them along the way will raise up a new generation of Christians. Since the first club began there in 1998, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Italy reaches 76 children with the gospel through 2 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Italy
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders with courage and joy in spreading the gospel. Scandals in the priesthood have caused many to distrust church leadership. The young people of Italy desperately need godly mentorship. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in Italy
In Europe, people tend to see Christianity as “old” and uninteresting. Awana debunks those myths! Unlike many American churches, most European churches have no children’s ministry. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Italy with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
