Myanmar is mostly Buddhist, and yet, it is one of the most violent countries in Southeast Asia. People are vulnerable economically and spiritually, with many restrictions on religious expressions. Suffering has refined the church here to be strong, unified, and more dynamic in its faith. Awana Myanmar can help further; it supports the churches by teaching kids the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Myanmar
There are 14.7 million children in Myanmar today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. Two-thirds of these are malnourished, and the majority of the people live in poverty. These struggles match their spiritual hunger as well. Since the first club began there in 2000, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Myanmar reaches 5,795 children with the gospel in their heart language through 87 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Myanmar
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders with courage and joy in spreading the gospel. One of Awana’s specialties, leadership training is one of the highest needs in the Burmese church. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program. In Myanmar, there is one missionary couple serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders.
Changing the World in Myanmar
What a powerful combination Awana is for the Burmese people and the rest of the Pacific Rim: solid, Biblical teaching for kids with trustworthy discipleship for adults. Many are coming to know the Lord and be discipled in a progressive manner through the Awana program. It’s a program that works—across many demographics and denominations. Together, this combination can change the world within a church, a community, and a country.
