Having separated from the Czech Republic in 1993, Slovakia joined the EU in 2004. This raised its economy but not its morale. The country suffers from the highest rates of depression and suicide in Europe. Thankfully, it is responding to new movements of Christianity and creative expressions of ministry. That’s where Awana Slovakia comes in. It supports Slovakian churches by reaching kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Slovakia
There are less than one million children in Slovakia today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. Well educated, children here need the kind of Biblically solid, Christian materials Awana Slovakia is able to provide. Bringing kids to Christ and mentoring them along the way will raise up a new generation of Christians. Since the first club began there in 1997, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Slovakia reaches 62 children with the gospel in their heart language through 4 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Slovakia
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders with courage and joy in spreading the gospel. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program. In Slovakia, there is one coordinator couple serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders.
Changing the World in Slovakia
In Europe, people tend to see Christianity as “old” and uninteresting. Awana debunks those myths! Unlike many American churches, most European churches have no children’s ministry. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Slovakia with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
