For most people in Belgium, religion is considered irrelevant. Christianity has been seriously divided here, with Protestants and Catholics on opposite sides of issues. However, unity among Protestant churches is filling the gap today as young people look for a genuine spiritual expression. Awana Belgium can help to provide this for the next generation as it reaches the children of today. It supports the churches by teaching kids the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Belgium
There are over 1.5 million children in Belgium today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. Recent drives to minister to children have produced much fruit through ministries like Awana. Bringing kids to Christ and mentoring them along the way will raise up a new generation of Christians. Since the first club began there in 2005, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Belgium reaches 87 children with the gospel through 2 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Belgium
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders with courage and joy in spreading the gospel. In Belgium, where church leadership is rarely full-time, other leadership is necessary to add support and encouragement. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in Belgium
In Europe, people tend to see Christianity as “old” and uninteresting. Awana debunks those myths! Unlike many American churches, most European churches have no children’s ministry. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Belgium with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
