Unlike most countries in Latin America, Chile enjoys a high standard of living due to political stability and strong economic growth. But that’s not all that is growing, due to religious liberties: Chile has a strong evangelical Christian presence with churches that use solid Biblical materials, like the Awana program. Awana exists in Chile to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with courage and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Chile
There are just 3.5 million children in Chile today under the age of 15. Unfortunately, the income disparity between rich and poor has meant that education quality per child strongly varies as well. The Awana program materials reach both segments by providing quality materials that are visually engaging and easy to read. Young motherhood is also an issue with the high illegitimacy rate; by the age of 14, one out of seven girls is already a mother. Providing mentoring and discipleship, Awana Chile is able to come alongside through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 1986, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created specially by Him!
Every week, Awana Chile reaches 986 children with the gospel in their heart language through 33 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Chile
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, a need particularly felt in Chile’s emerging evangelical church. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in Chile
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. Children in Chile may have few outlets for enjoyment. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Chile with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
