100 years of past British rule have left the Fiji Islands with colonial problems—particularly racism. However, the Methodist church has a strong footing here, and new life is coming out of the denomination. Also, new Christians who are sometimes dissatisfied with Methodism have gone on to build and nourish new churches. That’s where Awana Fiji Islands can help. It supports the churches there by teaching kids the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in the Fiji Islands
There are over 250,000 children in the Fiji Islands today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. It’s a perfect time for them to be mentored through a solid Biblical program like Awana. Since the first international Awana club began in the Fiji Islands in 1993, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Fiji Islands reaches 1,069 children with the gospel in their heart language through 35 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in the Fiji Islands
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders with courage and joy in spreading the gospel. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program. In the Fiji Islands, there is one missionary couple serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders.
Changing the World in the Fiji Islands
What a powerful combination Awana is for the people of the Fiji Islands and the rest of the Pacific Rim: solid, Biblical teaching for kids with trustworthy discipleship for adults. Many are coming to know the Lord and be discipled in a progressive manner through the Awana program. It’s a program that works across many demographics and denominations. Together, this combination can change the world within a church, a community, and a country.
