Within Israel, interest in the gospel is increasing among Jews in the last few years. The majority of Jewish believers enter a Messianic congregation that focuses on their history as God’s chosen people. Growing numbers of Messianic Jews has meant that persecution also grows. Other Jewish believers, but mostly Arabs and expatriates, join a Christian church. Awana Israel exists to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Israel
There are over two million children in Israel today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. These children desperately need to know the eternal love and hope that only a life in Christ provides. Awana Israel is able to come alongside through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 1979, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Israel reaches 144 children with the gospel in their heart languages through 2 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Israel
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, a need particularly felt in Israel’s Messianic and Christian churches. Persecution from other Jews and Arabs requires strong churches and good training to help leaders minister with joy and courage. To cope with that, each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in Israel
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Israel with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
