Atypical for the Middle East, Lebanon’s population comprises over 30% Christians and guarantees freedom of religion despite its Muslim majority. Its people have fought for control of government and land, at one time leading to a 15-year civil war. This country desperately needs the peace of the gospel. Awana Lebanon is a pathway to that; it supports the Christian church there by reaching kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Lebanon
There are almost 1.5 million children in Lebanon today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. These children desperately need to know the eternal love and hope that only a life in Christ provides, in order to bring peace to their war-torn country. Awana Lebanon is able to come alongside through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 2001, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Lebanon reaches 1,240 children with the gospel in their heart languages through 17 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in the Lebanon
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, a need in Lebanon’s evangelical church. Because Lebanon has freedom of religion, Christian leaders from surrounding Arab countries come there in order to receive training and further education. This provides more opportunities for Awana leadership to make a difference. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in the Lebanon
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Lebanon with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
