Moldova has widespread poverty, and children tend to be the ones most at risk. In spite of the country’s immense needs, the church in Moldova is a minority but is multiplying believers. That’s where Awana Moldova comes in to help. It supports Moldovan churches by reaching kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equipping leaders with discipleship, courage, and proven training methods, and changing the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Moldova
There are over 600,000 children in Moldova today under the age of 15, the time of life when they will be most open and receptive to the message of the gospel. Moldovan children face some of the greatest dangers today for children: abuse and trafficking are commonplace. Good mentorship, such as that in the Awana program, can step into some of these gaps. Awana Moldova is able to come alongside through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 1999, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Moldova reaches 482 children with the gospel in their heart language through 14 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Moldova
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders. This is a particular need in Moldova’s evangelical church, where trained leaders of any type are few. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum. National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
In Moldova, there is one coordinator couple serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders.
Changing the World in Moldova
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Moldova with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
