Paired with nearby island Tobago through a shared government, Trinidad has the strongest and least volatile Caribbean economy. Despite its numbers on paper, the high amount of professing Christians appears to be much different than those who actually live out their faith. Churches struggle with rampant immorality, leading to teenage mothers and drug use among youth. The churches of Trinidad need solid Biblical materials for children and good training for leadership—two hallmarks of the Awana ministry. Awana exists in Trinidad to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with courage and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Trinidad
There are almost a quarter of a million children in Trinidad today under the age of 15. Trinidad’s youth struggle with immorality, and the needs for strong, Biblical role models are great. Awana Trinidad is able to come alongside through local churches to help with these needs through leadership trained to work with children and mentor them in the Christian faith. Since the first club began there in 1997, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Trinidad reaches 150 children with the gospel in their heart language through 1 club.
Equipping Leaders in Trinidad
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, a need particularly felt in Trinidad’s fast-growing evangelical church. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum.
National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
Changing the World in Trinidad
Other countries are not like the U.S., where kids have an array of choices for activities. Children in Trinidad may have few outlets for enjoyment. When a church starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Trinidad with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
