Teeming with oil, Venezuela should be one of the world’s richest countries. However, 60% of its people live in poverty or near poverty. The inequalities provide challenges for Christian ministry, but Awana Venezuela doesn’t make distinctions between the haves and the have-nots. Awana exists in Venezuela to reach kids with the incredible news of the gospel, equip leaders there with courage and proven training methods, and to change the lives of many who wonder if life can provide something more.
Reaching Kids in Venezuela
There are more than 8 million children in Venezuela today under the age of 15. Child traffickers prey on the poorest ones, and materialism lures many young people away from the church. Awana Venezuela offers a safe environment and learning through fun activities and trained leaders, and it is able to work through local churches in ways foreign organizations cannot. Since the first club began there in 1986, the gospel of Christ has shown each child in Awana that he or she is precious to God and created especially by Him!
Every week, Awana Venezuela reaches 44,275 children with the gospel in their heart language through 537 clubs.
Equipping Leaders in Venezuela
Awana is a proven program for reaching kids with the gospel. But it disciples the rest of the church through equipping the Awana club leaders, and discipleship is key to growing the next group of Christian leaders in Venezuela. Each Awana program is built upon leadership that is trained to reach children, like those who use our Leader-Based Strategy (LBS) curriculum. National missionaries, who understand the complexity of their countries, assist the churches which use the Awana program.
In Venezuela, there are three missionary couples serving the churches with Awana clubs. They help the churches to implement the program and train the leaders. In addition, a national director provides training and oversight to the missionaries.
Changing the World in Venezuela
Other countries are not like the U.S. Normally Bible materials for children have not been translated into their language. When a church in Venezuela starts the Awana program, children have a meaningful and fun place to go as they learn about the gospel through engaging, age-appropriate materials. Adults are discipled and trained to make more disciples. Awana seeks to reach more children in Venezuela with the gospel and equip more leaders there.
