Meet Dianeth
A Front Row Seat to Child Discipleship
If you’ve ever led people in anything — kids in a classroom, adults in a training session, even just prayer around your kitchen table — you know the sound of “crickets.” That moment you ask for a volunteer or put a question out there and literally no one responds. You wind up “voluntelling” someone to speak, sending up a little prayer that you haven’t picked the one person who’s deathly afraid to speak in public.
Dianeth, an Awana ministry director at Iglesia Heraldos Del Rey in Campbell, Texas, knows crickets all too well. In the kids ministry at their church, she says, “kids did not want to participate or even talk.” At best, that’s no fun. And worse, there’s hardly a way to know if kids are soaking in the lesson or enjoying church at all when there’s no outward participation.
But in the Heraldos Del Ray children’s ministry, kids have done a 180. They began Awana programs in the spring of 2024, and between the small group moments and the “get up and move” game times, the structure of Awana club has brought children out of their shells. Today, leaders have no problem finding volunteers to pray or read Scripture aloud. “They all come forward!,” Dianeth says.
Her front-row seat to Awana child discipleship has given her a view into an incredible growth in her church’s children. Beneath the surface, change is happening, too. Dianeth loves the relationships, scriptural engagement and spiritual development happening in their Awana club. The kids are constantly adding to the list of Bible verses they have memorized, and there’s so much power in knowing Scripture. It brings peace of mind in anxious times, courage when we’re afraid and a guidepost when we feel lost. And knowing His Word gives kids (and adults!) the confidence to share it with people around us when they need encouragement or wonder about the God we serve.
“We are excited to see a generation that is becoming bold and not ashamed of the Gospel.”
– Dianeth, Awana leader, Iglesia Heraldos Del Ray
Awana child discipleship exists to grow kids’ faith, but the impact it has on adults is undeniable, too. Dianeth has seen such a change in the kids at church, it’s fueling her resolve to continue the kingdom work she was called to do. Join us in praying for Heraldos Del Rey and the many other Latino churches that reach children every week.
