11 Activities for Club Arrival Time
Kids wander in anywhere from a half hour before club starts until 10 minutes after club’s begun. The key is to get them doing something RIGHT AWAY. Otherwise, they tend to run around (and maybe cause some chaos?).
Here is a quick list of 11 things kids can do as soon as they arrive.
1. Watch a video. (Set one up in a corner of the room.)
2. Color. (Lots of coloring sheets online for every holiday, Bible event, season, etc. .)
3. Play a game. Ask a couple of your Student Leaders to organize a non-circle game. Throwing beanbags into a bucket is a good choice.
4. Say verses. Leaders can listen to kids who have several sections to say. This frees up Handbook Time to help those who may struggle.
5. Talk! Here’s a great time for leaders to sit down and have a conversation with the clubbers. Get to know them. How’s their week been? How’s school going?
6. Take a quiz. Plan a quiz about past lessons or verses.
7. Do a puzzle: word finds, word scrambles, etc.
8. Make cards for church shut-ins or residents of a nearby nursing home.
9. Design posters. Provide markers, poster board, etc. Give the clubbers a verse to print on the poster. Use the posters to decorate the room.
10. Choose the songs you’ll sing during song time.
11. Look up verses. Will you be needing someone to read a verse/verses during the lesson? Give the clubbers a small strip of paper with the verse reference. Help them look up the verse in the Bible and use the strip to mark the place.
