At Awana, we’re constantly searching ourselves to ensure that we’re doing our best at reaching kids everywhere.
And, 10 years ago, we found a blindspot.
We spent five years researching, developing, writing, and recording a really fun curriculum. But then we had a huge breakthrough, so we redeveloped everything from the inside out.
Now, a decade later, we’re confident this our best, most personal program yet!
So today, with great joy, we introduce Cave Crickets—the first pre-discipleship, pre-evangelism, prenatal curriculum ever created. Cave Crickets enables and equips parents to start bringing Scripture into their growing family.

The whole idea behind Cave Crickets started when we read some new research that showed babies ears develop months before they get born. So our goal was to share the Gospel in fun, exciting ways to babies while they’re still developing.
Naturally, we turned to the Bible to seek out whether reaching children that young was biblical. That’s when we were reminded of the passage in Luke 1:41a—”And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby [John the Baptist] leaped in her womb.”—and we too felt a leap, urging us to pursue this venture.
The Breakthrough
We knew we needed to find a way to communicate with growing babies. Over several years, we tried several different languages—including English, Swahili, Klingon, and Igpay Atinlay. None of them were very successful, so we put our Awana Labs team on they task and they labored diligently for years before arriving at a monumental breakthrough in the world of prenatal communication. We call it Cave Chat™.
Cave Chat™ is a series of sounds that developing children have shown to respond to. Put into the proper combination, developing children can immediately interpret the noises as communication and are quickly introduced to the concepts of grace, exegesis, and the debate between predestination and free will.
The Program
The core Cave Crickets program begins at home. Healthy moms make healthy babies, and our Awana Labs team found a completely organic vitamin source that makes for a great prenatal supplement. Then they went a step further and covered them in chocolate, because, if you’ve ever talked to a pregnant woman, you get it. (Note: These vitamins are not FDA approved.)
Next, mom can sit down and put on the special uterophonic headphones (patent pending) that clearly and accurately transmit the Cave Crickets curriculum to a developing child with Cave Chat™. The headphones are of the highest quality, made with the same parts as another well-known headphone manufacturer.
The last part of the program is a special class that teaches parents how to recreate the Cave Chat™ noises so they can get in on the pre-discipleship too!
The Reviews
For the last seven months, we’ve been beta testing Cave Crickets in clubs across the United States and one in Canada. We’ve had some great feedback, and we thought we’d share it with you.
“Before Cave Crickets, we had a lot of expecting mothers hanging around our club, hoping that if they memorized some verses, the baby might be learning it too. With the revelation of Cave Chat™, we’ve finally had a place for those mothers to go where they can learn how to make an early difference in their child’s life.” —Jayne Dough, Village Church, Everytown, USA
“I can’t believe you’re doing this.” —Susan Reader, First Baptist Church of Aurora, IL
“All I can say is thank you so much. I mean, ‘Wah wah woosh oo woosh wah.'” —Daniel Li, Church of the Yukon, Canada
But don’t feel like you need to trust the words of those strangers. My wife and I recently went through Cave Crickets with our daughter, and it’s made a WORLD of difference! (We think…)
