30 Must Have Topics in Your Parent’s Information Resources

Summer is the time to plan for fall.

Are you working on a Parents’ Information Book or webpage?

If you’re in the planning stages, here are 30 possible topics you might want to include. If you’ve already completed the parents information booklet, let us know if there’s anything we’ve missed.

1. Name of your church. Seriously, I have talked to people who have no idea the name of the church where their child attends Awana. They just know the neighbors pick him up and get him home again.
2. Address of your church. This sounds elementary, but sometimes the address is forgotten.
3. Phone or email so parents can contact the leader. (This could be the church office.)
4. Description of Awana; that it’s a global organization, the purpose, etc. You can include the three pillars: Reach Kids, Equip Leaders and Change the World.
5. Names of the clubs you offer and ages of children in each club.
6. Letter from the pastor or the commander or both. The letter should be warm and welcoming, thanking parents for the privilege of working with their kids.
7. Time and night of the week club meets.
8. Structure of club and what you do in each segment.
9. Registration details.
10. Costs with an assurance that all children are welcome whether or not the family can afford the book/shirt.
11. Photo release form. THIS IS A MUST if your club is on social media. You CANNOT post a picture without a parent’s permission.
12. Church map that helps a parent find the different areas of the building.
13. Instructions on how to register their child.
14. Medical information to let parents know you have a plan in place in case a child gets sick. (If some of your leaders are in the medical profession – let parents know there’s a nurse/doctor present.)
15. Drop-off and pick-up instructions.
16. Contact information for parents.
17. Child-protection information. For instance, letting parents know you won’t allow their child to leave with someone not listed on the registration form.
18. Where to find the church website, Facebook page, Twitter and Pinterest account.
19. Where to find the Awana website – especially so parents can connect with the store.
20. List and links of parents resources.
21. Health policy.
22. Snow day policy.
23. Reminder of what the child should bring to club.
24. Explanation of appropriate dress which usually focuses on shoes and what is allowed on the gym floor.
25. Calendar with theme nights.
26. Calendar of events.
27. Discipline policy.
28. Leader introduction – not an introduction of all kids, but a general explanation that leaders have been through leader training and child protection training.
29. Memory tips for parents to help kids.
30. Explanation of the Gospel Wheel.
