A Young Teacher Answering the Call
Mexico
Think about the 18-year-olds you know. Maybe the 18-year-old you used to be.
What are they like? A little self-involved? Maybe. A little (under the surface, a lot) nervous about figuring out what comes next, when their life isn’t structured by mandatory school time and their friends start to scatter?
18-year-old Awana leader
It’s possible Jasid can identify with all that. She is 18, after all.
But she’s spiritually anchored and solid in a way many adults wish they could be.
Having a father as a lead pastor in their church in Durango, Mexico, Jasid grew up no stranger to serving. Early in her youth, she began working in children’s ministry. Even then, she reflects, she had “a deep passion and certainty that the Lord had called” her to serve in through working with children.

That passion to serve goes a long way. And when you pair it with knowledge and resources, it’s practically unstoppable. Jasid’s experience with the Awana “Descúbrelo” curriculum (in English, “Descúbrelo” means “discover it!”), has equipped her for a more intentional, creative approach as she guides little ones in their journey with Jesus. Getting boys and girls actively engaged in every Bible-focused activity has become a source of joy for Jasid. She witnesses the fruits of her work and of their budding faith every time they look for new ways to be like Jesus, whether they volunteer to lead worship or put away tables and chairs at church.

And it’s not just the children who change. Leading Awana, Jasid gets a front-row seat to the growing interest of involved parents and their increased desire to help their kids walk in Jesus’ ways.

Although, Jasid says, there are challenges in working with God’s littlest disciples and teachers’ patience is sometimes tested 🙂, “The reward is multiplied by remembering that our efforts and dedication are meant to honor the Lord and glorify Him.” It’s her fervent hope to see the lessons of Awana ministry — lessons of the Gospel — reveal themselves every day in the lives of the little ones, trusting that with His guidance, Jasid and leaders like her can continue to guide them in their years to come.
