Faith is Bearing Fruit in India
India
On the far eastern edge of India, in West Bengal, a teenage girl named Surnima is passing on the gift of faith to the kids in her church — and it’s a path she’s been on since childhood.
Awana leader Surnima boldly passes on her faith
Surnima, who lives with her parents and sister, was a consistent “Awana kid” through her childhood years, learning all about the truths taught in the Bible, and at the same time, developing a deep personal relationship with God.
As a teen, those experiences are bearing fruit. On June 16, 2024, she made one of the biggest decisions of her life: She stepped out in obedience by publicly professing her faith in Christ through baptism. In a region where over 90 percent of the population is either Hindu or Muslim, publicly practicing Christianity takes belief and boldness; Surnima has demonstrated both.

Surnima’s inward walk with the Lord has been marked by unwavering prayer and a perseverance that played a crucial role in bringing her parents to faith in Jesus. And her maturity and leadership qualities have not gone unnoticed! This year, her pastor appointed Surnima as an Awana leader in their church, a role in which she now guides and mentors other children, helping them grow in their faith just like she did.

A desire to share God’s love and the message of the Gospel with other children is the direct result of a joyful relationship with the Lord. We’re honored to be on a mission that helps boys and girls experience that relationship. It’s changing not just individual lives like Surnima’s, but the lives of parents, other children … an entire generation. And you’re a part of that impact. Thank you for caring about kids’ faith.
