God is working through Awana
Selfless men and women of all ages and nationalities give give faithfully their time, energy, and often so much more. Following are some short accounts of how international Awana leaders are making a difference in the global population of children and youth.
Kiev, Ukraine
“In May of 2010, 21 leaders from Awana clubs in Kiev had the opportunity to travel to Chernobyl and minister to the children there. This region is still devastated by radiation due to the terrible nuclear accident in 1986. In all we ministered to about 270 children, most had never heard about Jesus! We spent the all day there playing games, having fellowship and learning the Scripture. At the end of the day many children opened their hearts to God and have prayed to Him for the very first time. Praise the Lord for these hearts!”
Nairobi, Kenya
“Awana Mtaani is a program where clubbers within an Awana club reach out to children who don’t attend Awana regularly. Mtaani is a Swahili word meaning “on the Streets”. Clubbers go out in large numbers to streets, market places, villages and even refugee camps, chanting Awana slogans and songs. We normally carry our banners, puppets and Awana flag too. Out of curiosity, kids follow us to a specified location where we play the Awana games with them and then share the gospel. The most humbling and amazing part is that even adults who are just passing by normally join us and we are able to share the gospel with them too. Through Awana Mtaani we’ve seen an immense growth in the lives of children. To date, we’ve been able to reach more than 10,000 kids with the gospel of Christ.”
Awana leader, FGA Church – Bhawalpur, Pakistan
“Before joining Awana I did not consider the children very important in the life of the church. After attending an Awana Seed Planters training my life has been totally changed and I’m now committed to minister the children in my community. When I prepare Bible lesson for Awana club I tried to apply the message in my life. Awana has played a very positive role in my life. Thank you Awana!”
Trainer & Director of Awana Club – Los Pinos, Argentina
“When we started Awana we had over 45 children coming every week, but since we were meeting outside, we often had to cancel club because it would get too cold. During these cold days, my daughter and I started hosting the Awana club in our home. Not only were kids coming, but their parents were too, and many came to know the Lord as their Savior.
Our church desperately looked for a place to rent where we could hold Awana. Eventually a property with a courtyard became available, but it was too much money. After much prayer and fasting, a group of churches provided the money to purchase the place. Since then we’ve seen our club grow including the addition of seven new Awana leaders!”
