Jesus is Changing Her

Nigeria

We’re ecstatic to report on the millions of children in Africa meeting Jesus for the first time. But we never lose sight of this truth: Discipling millions starts with one. The God-sized changes in schools and villages across Africa are a mosaic of transformation happening one child at a time — children like Catherine.

Catherine, a 10-year-old girl in Nigeria, had always struggled controlling her anger. Her parents saw it, her schoolteachers saw it, and it affected her academics and her spiritual life. She started getting counseling at school, but it was when she started attending a new school with Awana programming that she found the traction that pulled her out of her angry patterns. Catherine’s mother came to her school saying, “The discipleship program has greatly impacted her, particularly in managing her anger.”

When kids learn what the Bible says and get to truly know Jesus, the change is beautiful to behold. Catherine was keenly aware of it, too, saying, “I had anger issues. In fact, I was always angry! But since I got to this school and joined the Awana club here, my life has been greatly impacted. I no longer struggle with anger and I’ve also improved academically.”

If that kind of transformation happens for one child in one school, imagine the possibilities of an entire generation coming to know, love and serve Jesus. That is how we change the world.

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)
