Stephen Maphosah
Executive Vice President, International
Stephen is the executive vice president of global ministries for Awana. His passion is evangelism of children and youth. In 1990, Stephen joined Awana as a coordinator for Zimbabwe. He then served as regional director for East Africa and in 2008 became area director for all of Africa.
In May 2018, he was appointed vice president of Awana Africa. Stephen developed an excellent team of regional and national directors who led the ministry’s exponential growth across the continent. Under his leadership, the Awana ministry in Africa grew from 1,000 church partners to more than 35,000 churches and schools evangelizing and discipling millions of boys and girls each week. In 2024 Stephen was appointed executive vice president overseeing the ministry of Awana in 140 countries. Stephen is a native of Zimbabwe and lives in Harare with his wife, Edina, and three children.
Stephen’s favorite Bible verse is 2 Timothy 2:2, ESV: And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
