Presenting the Gospel to Clubbers

1. What’s the biggest misconception kids have about the gospel?
Most children easily acknowledge that they are sinful, i.e. they have thought, said, or done something that is against God’s laws. But when you ask a child “What will take your sin away, so that we can live with God in His perfect home?” most children answer, “Be good.”

They don’t understand that salvation begins and ends with God. His Son, Jesus, made the complete payment for our sins that separate us from God. Being good, going to church, etc. are the things that we do out of gratitude after we become God’s child, not to gain our birth into His family.

2. What do you feel is the biggest barrier blocking the way for kids to trust Christ?
For some children, their first exposure to the message about what Christ did for them on the cross is clearly understood, and they respond with a decision. For others, their first exposure is not enough for them to understand to the point of response. This is the reason that it’s so critical to present the gospel clearly, and often. Barriers, whatever they be, can weaken over time as God’s truth of the Gospel is being spoken to them consistently.

3. Any particular salvation verses that you think work particularly well with kids?
My favorite verse to use with children is Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” I like to substitute false ideas into the verse, so that the kids can catch them, i.e. “Behave on the….”, “Believe on Buddha“, or “…you might be saved.”

4. What’s the biggest mistake leaders make in sharing the gospel with kids?
They don’t share it. This is the biggest mistake that leaders make. The power is in God’s Word, so don’t let fear hold you back.
