The Cubbies App Is Coming!

UPDATE: The Cubbies app is here! Download it today!
What is a Cubbies App?
The app includes all the music that is included on the Cubbies Handbook Music CDs – with a bouncing ball feature to help you keep track of the words. (The bouncing ball is great for leaders/parents and also for Cubbies who are beginning to learn to read.)
Is it interactive?
Yes. Cubbies get to choose which character appears on their screens. The app also has some simple animation that the children can activate.
But the most exciting feature is the ability for the child to record himself/herself singing the songs! If you’d like, you can upload your child’s solo to your Facebook page.
What about the parents?
A parent portal section has articles about teaching preschoolers to memorize and sharing the gospel with preschoolers.
How can I use the Cubbies App?
- Parents can use it to help their children learn their verses.
- Leaders can also use it during club time when they have a few extra minutes to work with a child. (Or if the leader has only a few Cubbies, he or she could use it as a teaching tool for the entire group.)
- Cubbies could use it simply to have fun … and learn verses at the same time.
How much does the app cost?
You can download the app and the first 7 verses for free. Then, for a limited time you can purchase one book’s verses for $3.99 and after that initial period, one book will cost $4.99. Or for a limited time, you can purchase both books’ verses for $7.99 and after the initial period it will be $9.99. (That’s about half of the price you’d pay if you bought the CDs themselves.)
Why is the new Cubbies Bible Verse Music app only available for Apple devices?
One of the goals Awana has for this app is to learn more about creating digital tools for ministry – what’s engaging, effective, and sustainable.
We will be testing and measuring several key features within this app, including user interaction (i.e. what gets tapped on screen) and in-app purchasing behaviors. (Note that we will not be evaluating usage on any one single copy of the app, but from aggregate numbers.)
To simplify this testing and measuring environment, we decided to create the app initially in Apple iOS format only. We realized this would be a disappointment to many! But releasing the app in a single platform also allowed us to develop it in more compact time frame so that we could release it for the full 2014-15 club year.
As we learn from this app’s initial release, we will evaluate that data and use it to improve this app (including releases ministry tools in the future.
