“I don’t know what I don’t know.” Read that phrase again. Breathe and know it is okay because leaders are learners.
What’s your honest reaction?
A lack of knowledge can be paralyzing.
Some leaders understand that there’s a ton about their life and ministry they just don’t know ‒ and it’s very intimidating.
Other leaders see their lack of knowledge as an opportunity to grow.
No matter where you are in your own development as a leader, the trick is not to be daunted by what you don’t know but to look for ways to be learners.
For the sake of those in your care, don’t let naiveté be a result of hard-heartedness or a lack of initiative on your part.
Your first step to becoming better learners could be as simple as surrounding yourself with others who can support you and teach you.
This will require admitting there are strengths you’ll never have.
While the maxim still holds true: “The more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know,” it’s also true you’ll become more comfortable as a leader when you’re more comfortable as learners.
