6 Reasons We Chose Awana for Our Church
Four years ago, my husband and I started Sierra View Baptist Church. In the early days of church planting while meeting in a local hotel conference room, we could barely envision the direction that the Lord would lead our church family.
When it came to the time that we felt we should start a midweek service, there were many opportunities and choices that we considered. The following helped us to come to the decision to choose Awana for Sierra View.
- The first reason that we chose Awana is because a former Awana volunteer attends our church. He has seen first-hand the impact that the club has on young lives. He caught the vision that Mr. Latham and Mr. Rorheim originally had when creating a club for boys and girls. The volunteer believed in it and wanted to pass that along to the next generation. You see, Awana not only affects the students, but it creates a passion and desire for service to the Lord in all those who volunteer as teachers or helpers.
- We decided we wanted to choose a program that would attract those in our community that had possibly attended an Awana club as a youth or knew of Awana. Awana is well-known globally. It’s a program that’s in more than 100 countries … 30,000 churches and it reaches 2.3 million children and youth a week. Amazing statistics! There are good chances that those in your church and community have experienced an Awana club as a youth and want to pass that experience on to their children and grandchildren. It is a great way to attract those who may not currently be involved or even attending church.
- We wanted a program that would ground young people in the eternal Word of God. Nothing in this world is more powerful, life-changing and eternal than the Word of God. Awana fills their souls and minds with dozens of Scripture verses that they’ll carry into their teens and adult lives.
- We chose Awana because it is a family-oriented program. It provides a curriculum that guides the parent to point their child’s heart to God on a daily basis. And that happens together as a family. In this day and age of every imaginable form of technology, it is refreshing to get back to the basics. The simple act of sitting together, reading a story and learning Scripture can bring a family closer.
- Awana is an exciting and fun-filled program for toddlers to teens.. Our young people look forward to Wednesdays all week long. It is a time to connect with friends in a Christ-centered environment where you’ll leave refreshed and encouraged.
- Awana creates a strong group of workers who come together for a common goal – to train up young people who love the Lord and make Him real in their lives. It is a wonderful network of ministry where we as leaders, teachers or helpers can grow and mature into the place of service that God created us to be.
As a parent and as the pastor’s wife of Sierra View, I couldn’t imagine a more excellent choice for our children than Awana!
