Finishing Well Checklist

Awana Editorial Team

April 7, 2015

The end of the club year is coming; and with it, much to accomplish. Don’t let something important fall through the cracks. Consider this list to finish well. Have you:

❏ Personally thanked your volunteer leaders for their commitment to your ministry?

❏ Encouraged kids who are close to finishing their books and provided some extra assistance (and time) to help them reach their goal?

❏ Kept the excitement going? Sometimes we all get apathetic as the end of the year approaches. Why not plan a fun contest for the last few weeks to keep up everyone’s enthusiasm?

❏ Taught a lesson focusing on the Gospel of Christ? All lessons should include a Gospel presentation, but once in a while a lesson needs to solely focus on the Gospel. Take the time for leaders to talk one-on-one with kids and ask if they have questions about salvation.

❏ Planned a Super Section Saturday where kids get to come, enjoy games and activities and say sections? Make sure you have several adults on hand to help one-on-one with children who struggle.

❏ Established relationships with kids who haven’t been coming that long so that they’ll want to return in the fall?

❏ Asked leaders about serving again?

❏ Begun vision casting and communicating with leaders and parents about the importance of child discipleship and being engaged in your ministry?

❏ Asked parents how many kids they plan to enroll in Awana in the fall?

❏ Planned an evaluation meeting to discuss how things went this year and what you want to do next year?

❏ Scheduled training for your leaders and communicated with them about the dates?

❏ Cleaned your space and taken inventory of your handbooks and supplies so you can order before the rush?

❏ Made an end-of-the-year gift for your kids?

❏ Scheduled a “moving up” day so kids who are moving to the next club level can visit their new room and become familiar with the leader and friends they’ll be with?

❏ Ordered your awards for your end-of-year celebration?

❏ Told parents about upcoming events for next year?

❏ Begun background checks for volunteer leaders who will be joining you?

❏ Made sure you have everyone’s correct addresses/email addresses to send out notices about summer events and the return of Awana?

There is a lot to do at the end of a ministry year, but a checklist like this can ensure nothing you want to accomplish is forgotten, and that you do well at finishing well.
