1. Matthew 3 – Wisdom Night. Large group lesson: Where did the wise men come from? How many were there? What were those gifts they brought the Christ child?
What to do: Challenge clubbers to bring in a trivia fact and then give clubbers an opportunity to share their wisdom with each other. (Depending on your group, you might want leaders to check for anything inappropriate before clubbers share their facts with the group.)
2. Mark 1:16-24 – Fish Night. Large group lesson: Talk about the meaning of “following Jesus.”
What to do: You could bring goldfish crackers for a treat and also for a game prop. Clubbers have to balance several crackers on a spoon as they walk around the circle, etc. You could also have clubbers throw balls into nets. Or make fishing rods with magnets on the end for the clubbers to “catch” paper fish (with magnets glued on the backs).
3. Luke 10:25-37 – Affliction Night. Large group lesson: The Good Samaritan.
What to do: Clubbers come dressed in bandages. Clubbers could do the three-legged race or tie a bow with one hand.
4. John 6:1-15 – Lots of Food Night. Large group lesson: Talk about the feeding of the multitude from one boy’s lunch. Emphasize that children can make a difference for God.
What to do: Clubbers could bring food for a food bank. Games could be one team member passing out a crouton to everyone on the team and then collecting them again before running around the circle and in for the pin. Or, a clubber must fill a basket with miscellaneous objects and carry the basket around the circle. And, because it’s Lots of Food Night – you must have a snack!
5. Acts 13:1-14:7 – Missionary Night. Large group lesson: Talk about Paul and Barnabas being the first missionaries. Bring a map and follow their route. Or have a missionary teach the lesson.
What to do: What do missionaries need? A map, a suitcase, cans of food, etc.? Give each team an equal amount of “supplies.” At the whistle the first player carries one supply around the circle and then hands it to the second player who must carry the first supply and add the second and so on. First team to get all the supplies around the circle (or world?) wins.
6. Romans 12:1-2 – Roman Night. Large group lesson: Talk about what Paul meant when he said we should be living sacrifices. What does that mean to a kid?
What to do: Bring four old sheets and give one to each team. When the whistle blows, clubber at the line must wrap himself in the sheet – as a toga – and then speed walk around the circle. Or, plan an all-club service project – make a craft for shut-ins, collect money for a missionary, write notes to missionary kids who live in another country, etc.
7. 1 Corinthians 13 – Love Night. Large group lesson: This chapter is one of the most well-known in the entire Bible. How can we show God’s love to others? Are we kind, patient, humble? Talk about each of the characteristics with your clubbers.
What to do: Role-play different situations common to a child’s life. What is the loving way to handle the situation, what is the unkind way to handle the situation? You could have older clubbers write down situations they would like to see as part of a role-play. You could allow them to do this anonymously. Perhaps this would give them an opportunity to figure out how to handle something at home or school.
8. 1 Corinthians 8 – Generosity Night. Large group lesson: Here Paul talks about the generosity of the churches in Macedonia even though they were hurting themselves and experienced severe poverty. (Bible scholars believe these churches were under great persecution for their belief in Christ.)
What to do: Ask clubbers to bring packages of clean underwear for a children’s shelter (often shelters get play clothes, but not underwear-type articles of clothing). Or, have clubbers bring in trial-sized toothpaste, shampoo etc., for a homeless shelter. Think of something other than canned goods for this event.
9. Galatians 5:22-25 – Fruit of the Spirit Night. Large group lesson: Talk about the different characteristics of the Christian life as evidenced by the Fruit of the Spirit. Teach the kids a song about the Fruit of the Spirit.
What to do: Play games with fruit. Bowl with apples (and of course, the apples probably will not go in a straight line). Use bananas as batons. Enjoy a snack made with fruit.
10. Ephesians 6:1-2 – Obedience Night. Large group lesson: These are familiar verses even to many young children, however, obedience goes further than simply doing what one is told. Talk about the necessity for have a good attitude when obeying. Use examples such as this: “Mom tells you to clean your room. You head down the hall, but you kick your little brother’s block tower, slam the door and think mean thoughts about your mom as you are working. Do you think that’s what God meant when He said we were to obey and honor out parents?”
What to do: One clubber is blindfolded. Another clubber must lead him through an obstacle course by telling him what to do Not physically guiding him.) Simon Says is another good “obedience” game.
