Lead A Cause; Not A Task List

Recruiting and retaining volunteers can be tough: You want to make it easy for people to get involved. But you also want to make it hard for them to leave.

Maybe you’ve noticed a pattern in your ministry:
1. You share a need.
2. People volunteer to fill it.
3. Everything seems to be going well.
4. But when it’s time to re-up, they’re just not interested.

If that pattern describes your church, you’re not alone. Volunteer turnover is common.

People will fill a need for the short-term.

They might fill a need because they want to help out, because they love working with you, or even because they’d feel guilty for saying “no.” But “filling a need” only motivates for a season.

The best leaders aren’t motivated by a task.
They’re motivated by a cause.

They believe in something and they want to be a part of it. It’s our responsibility to passionately cast to vision for our ministry that will inspire others to inspire others.
