9 Ways to Reconnect with your Clubbers

When summer begins, most of us are ready for a change of pace. But it can be hard to reconnect with routines and relationships when the fall schedule picks back up. Here are some ideas for staying connected to your Awana clubbers until club starts in the fall.

  1. Pray for them. You may not know the details of their summer, but God does!
  2. Plan a late-summer get together for Awana kids and their families. Some churches host an ice cream social, barbecue, or other fun event—just to touch base.
  3. Go out of your way to talk to the kids when you see them at church or around town. Make sure they know you care about them, not just the program.
  4. Bring a fellow leader along and attend a community ballgame, play, or event in which your Awana kids participate.
  5. Send postcards to Awana families. Remind them that you’re looking forward to starting up again soon!
  6. Invite families to send a postcard to the church of places they’ve visited over the summer – whether that’s a vacation across the country or a day trip to the zoo. Tack all the postcards to a bulletin board that everyone can enjoy.
  7. Stay active on social media. Let families know you will be posting during the summer, giving news, sharing pictures from club, posting quotes or trivia. (If your club/church isn’t on social media, why not start an account?)
  8. Have an Awana Promotion Sunday a few weeks before the club starts. Present a slideshow, have some clubbers speak, and share about the exciting things coming in the new club year.
  9. Don’t stop! Some churches don’t take a summer break, or they begin a summer sports ministry or missions club on the same night that Awana is typically held.

What has your church done to stay connected with students? What has worked well, and why?
