Awana 2020 Annual Report: A Year Like No Other

Carla Hutson

July 7, 2021

In a year that was anything but normal, Awana continued to disciple millions of children around the world, magnifying God’s favor on this ministry and spreading His love. The stories of how staff and leaders did that are the highlight of the 2020 Annual Report. Also in the report is Awana By the Numbers: children reached, clubs per country, and a financial review.

You’ll read about the Ministry of Education in Zimbabwe allowing Awana to train teachers in more than 7,000 schools, with the opportunity to reach 3.5 million children! You’ll learn about the success of FAITH gardens in Sri Lanka and you’ll be inspired by the number of churches and clubs that – despite their own financial, social and physical hardships – pivoted to online, in-person and hybrid models in order to continue to serve their children and families.

As a result of prayer and collaboration among the corporate and field staff, Awana was able to offer training and resources online. Out of the COVID-19 obstacles we birthed virtual Awana Ministry Conferences, free online training webinars and even a digital missionary candidate school. We launched Awana Clubs+, a free, digital toolbox for churches and families, which included crowdsourced materials many of you uploaded so that other churches could benefit from using them.

Long before the pandemic began, we were developing Brite curriculum to help churches and families make resilient disciples. As our teams worked to create beautiful, easy-to-use, online curriculum, only God knew the importance of Brite and the impact it would have on this ministry year.

Throughout 2020, Awana continued to further the message of Resilient: Child Discipleship and the Fearless Future of the Church. To encourage dialogue, collaboration and forward thinking, plans are being made to launch the first Child Discipleship Forum, this Sept. 16 and 17 in Nashville, Tennessee and online. The event will bring together renowned speakers, ministry leaders, pastors and parents to address the most pressing concerns affecting children today for the future. We invite you to join us in person or online!

We’re grateful for the way God has blessed us and feel a particular responsibility to ensure this Gospel-centered, discipleship-focused ministry continues for generations to come.
