Modeling Prayer Like “an Angel”

This month’s blog comes from guest writer Miguel Perez. Miguel is the Awana global vice president for Latin America. When Miguel was young, he had a role model for prayer. As God calls you to pray for others, consider that His call could also be for you to model prayer to a younger generation.
Modeling Prayer Like “an Angel”
When I was about 12 years old, an angel visited me. He was the pastor of my church, a very small church in a warm city near the Orinoco River in Venezuela. His name was Ángel. He came from another city and lived with my family for about three months. How many things I learned from Pastor Ángel during his ministry!
One of his phrases was: “Praying and working.” When I woke up each morning, I saw Pastor Ángel praying on his knees. I heard him laugh, sing, cry out, and mention names and families. I well remember the report he presented several years later when he ended his ministry. He listed accomplishments, leaders developed , and unmet issues. Many of us saw him working towards those goals. I also saw him pray for them.
Jesus led his disciples to know the great and pressing needs of the people, and He urged them to pray for God to send workers who could demonstrate His compassion for those who live without faith and hope (Matthew 9: 37-38). He also taught them to pray permanently and never faint (Luke 19).
How much do we love children and seek their well-being? How diligently do we work for them? How intense is our prayer for them?
May we pray, “Lord, send adults, youth and children to go to the little ones from all corners of the world until they all come to know, love and serve you.”
As God calls you to prayer this month, please pray for the needs of “adults, youth and children” in Awana clubs around the world by downloading the Awana Prayer Calendar for November and joining us for the Child Discipler Monthly Prayer Time, at 9 a.m. CT, the third Friday of each month.
