Pray More, Worry Less

Are you prone to worry? There is certainly a lot we can get anxious about, but there is a more constructive way to spend our time. Awana Marketing Coordinator Arista Teodozow explains how prayer can provide us a way to let go of our worry and anxiety and find the peace we desire.
Pray More. Worry Less
Intentional time with God provides peace in a loud, discouraging and dark world. As a Christian, it’s crucial to prioritize prayer because through prayer, we share our heart with God and invite Him to move in and take the lead with His power.
Oftentimes, our first response to a difficult situation is anything and everything but prayer. We allow anxiety to creep in and take our thoughts and our peace captive. Whatever the hard situation may be, worrying over it, talking about it, attempting to control it and every other solution we may try, isn’t fully trusting God.
“If a situation is big enough to worry about, it’s big enough to pray about.” – Craig Groeschel
If we truly want Jesus to lead and direct our life, we must seek Him consistently in prayer and remember He is God and we aren’t. He is in control; we aren’t.
Paul put it this way: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
The world tells us we should be worried in hard times. But God tells us to spend time in prayer and in His Word so we will have peace. This verse is an encouraging reminder that God is our peace.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
When we pray, we need to praise God for what He’s done and ask Him to help us. Prayer doesn’t always change our circumstances immediately, but it does help remind us we’re not navigating life alone. The more time we spend seeking God and His will for our lives, we’ll experience joy and peace because we’re trusting Him.
When you pray during May, use our prayer calendar every day to praise God and ask Him to go before our leaders and clubs around the world. For further reading about prayer, go to our Awana blog page and sort by the “Prayer” category.
