Learn to say no.
One of the best practices of a great children’s or youth ministry is understanding what you’re not going to do.
Here are three reasons great ministries say no:
Redundancy
Someone else is already doing something similar – in your church or another nearby church. Don’t waste your time re-inventing the wheel. If it’s already being done, don’t do it.
Periphery
It might seem like a great idea, but it just isn’t a part of your vision for your ministry right now. This one’s tough because you probably recognize as a great idea. It just isn’t right for this ministry season.
Commitment
You don’t have the resources to do it or do it well. If you’ve ever started to bake cookies only to realize after 5 minutes that you don’t have any eggs, then you know what I’m talking about.
Saying “no” can be difficult. But after saying no to good things, you’ll be able to say yes to great things.
