11 Verses to Think About This Christmas
Tomorrow is Christmas, a day when we remember the greatest gift that has ever been given – that of God sending His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to provide us with salvation.
Why not take some time to read (or quote) some verses that remind us in a unique way of the privilege we have of knowing Christ as Savior. (Or, if you haven’t trusted Christ, why not make this be the most memorable Christmas ever by accepting His gift of forgiveness and of eternal life?)
1. Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
2. Isaiah 9:6-7 – For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
3. Micah 5:2 – But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for Me One who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
4. Matthew 1:21 – She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
5. Matthew 2:10 – When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. (Although this is in order verse wise, these events do not happen until after the Luke 2 events.)
6. Luke 1:35 – And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
7. Luke 2:7 – And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
8. Luke 2: 11-14 – For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!”
9. John 1:14 – And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
10. John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
11. Philippians 2:8-11 – And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
