Grand Prix: An Awana Event
The Awana Grand Prix is a racing event with a track record of fun and excitement. Each year thousands of young people and their families attend a local race where they will hear the gospel message.
During the event clubbers race small wooden cars that they’ve crafted with the help of a parent or other adult. The race is held in a large room with space for a track, the participating kids, officials and spectators. Many churches ask their local Awana missionary or ministry team members for advice or assistance in running the races; some missionaries even have tracks for the churches to borrow.
But the Awana Grand Prix is more than just building a race car and watching it run down the track. The event helps to build a bond between kids and their parents as they work together to design the best car ever. Parents and grandparents will be drawn into the creative excitement of helping their young people participate. And everyone who attends will hear the good news that God loves them and sent His Son to rescue them from sin.
An Awana Grand Prix race is a proven way to accomplish several goals in the local church by …
* Bringing family members into a church setting where they will hear the gospel.
* Building and strengthening relationships among the club leadership, parents, and clubbers.
* Getting parents, grandparents, and other family members involved in the children’s club activities.
* Providing another opportunity for adults in the church to serve the Lord, either helping make the cars or running the races.
* Providing a challenging, exciting event in the club year.
* Drawing boys and girls back after the holidays or a drop in attendance.
There is more information about the Grand Prix on the Awana website, and all the supplies you need are available through the store. You can always call a missionary team member for help, plus many websites have advice about building cars and running the race.
