25 Questions to Prepare Your KidMin Team for Success

Building a team takes work.
It’s an emotional endeavor.
It’s rarely easy.

Even though it’s still early July, there’s a good chance that you’re already thinking about building your team for this upcoming ministry year.

If that’s you: Bravo.
You’re way ahead.

If that’s not you: Don’t worry.
You’ve got time.

Every team is different.
Every team has its own challenges.
Every team has unique ministry opportunities.

But there a few practices that make teams successful.

“Teams don’t succeed just because they want to.
Teams succeed because they plan to.”

Here are 25 questions to ask as you’re building:

1. Will you regularly pray together?

2. How will you have fun together?

3. Will you take the time to learn team members’ strengths?

4. (If you’re a big church) How can you bring a sense of familiarity?

5. (If you’re a small church) How can you bring a sense of stability?

6. How will you handle interpersonal conflict if it comes up?

7. How will you get to know each others’ families (spouses and kids)?

8. How will you recruit? Personal invite? Announcement?

9. What tools will you use to grow together spiritually?

10. How will you “onboard” new team members?

11. (If you’re a leader) How will you show your appreciation?

12. How will you keep your pastor informed of ministry highlights?

13. Do you have a communication system in place (text, email, phone)?

14. How will you move forward if a team member decides to step down?

15. Does this team understand personality types and leadership styles?

16. Will you have margin to help even when it’s inconvenient?

17. (If you’re a big church) Do you know team members’ names?

18. (If you’re a small church) How can you deepen relationships?

19. What will you do to prevent burnout?

20. How will this team be trained throughout the year?

21. How will you encourage each other? Gifts? Notes? Coffee?

22. (If you’re a new church) How will you set the tone for the future?

23. (If you’re an established church) How will keep things fresh?

24. How will you support each other when things are challenging?

25. How will you celebrate together?
