Prayer is the Enemy of the Enemy

When we find ourselves in a tough situation, the greatest weapon we have is already available to us. Prayer. But not just our prayers; those of our fellow Christians who have come alongside of us in the fight. Awana U.S. Latino Director Abel Lopez is our guest blogger this month. He encourages us to surround ourselves with people who will pray for us and to be a prayer warrior, in turn, for others.

Prayer is the Enemy of the Enemy

In Prayer Is Invading the Impossible, Jack Hayford writes, “But there is a way to face impossibility. Invade it! … But with violence. And prayer provides the vehicle for this kind of violence.”

Effective Christian living is supported by prayer. We cannot fight the enemy without the weapon of prayer in our lives and ministry. We may think prayer is the responsibility of leadership, and our church yet may be encouraged to intentionally make prayer a lifestyle habit. As believers, we know full well storms come and situations occur every week that require us to be praying and growing deeper in the Word. A way to strengthen our prayer life is to surround ourselves with people who will help us fight the good fight in prayer.

My mother was one of those people. Every day at two o’clock in the afternoon you would find her on her knees praying. She formed a vital part of my prayer support. She taught my dad how to pray, and once she passed my dad took her place. Such people are invaluable to us, and there are people like her in all our life circles. May our willingness to pray be greater than our circumstance.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6-7)
